the operator of AskMeTax, is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy
Policy explains what information we collect when you use askmetax.ai (the
“Service”), how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree
to the practices described below.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:

Account information: When you register, we collect your email address and, if
applicable, your name. Authentication is managed through Google Firebase Authentication.

Questions and interactions: The tax-related questions you submit to AskMeTax
and the responses generated are stored to deliver the Service and to improve response quality.

Uploaded documents: Files you upload to the return tools — trial balances,
return schedules, financial statements and supporting documents — are stored, together with
the results the tools derived from them, to deliver the Service and so that we can
investigate and correct processing errors you report.

Payment information: When you subscribe to a paid plan, payment details
(card number, expiry, CVV) are collected and processed exclusively by our payment gateway
provider, PayHere (payhere.lk). We do not store your full card details on our
servers.

Usage data: We automatically collect your IP address, browser type, device
information, pages visited, and interaction timestamps for security, fraud prevention, and
service improvement purposes.

Cookies and similar technologies: We use session cookies to maintain your
login state. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account and authenticate your identity.
- To deliver tax advisory responses to your questions.
- To process subscription payments and manage billing.
- To enforce usage limits (free-tier questions and subscription quotas).
- To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and unauthorised access.
- To send service-related notifications (e.g., subscription renewal, policy updates).
- To improve the accuracy and quality of our AI-powered responses.
3. Sharing of Information
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We may share it only in the following cases:

Payment processor: We share necessary transaction data with PayHere to process
subscription payments. PayHere’s own privacy policy governs their handling of your
payment information.

Cloud infrastructure providers: We use Google Cloud Platform (including
Firestore and Vertex AI) to operate the Service. Data is processed in accordance with
Google’s data processing terms.

Legal obligations: We may disclose information if required to do so by law,
court order, or a valid request from a government authority.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account and question history for as long as your account is active or as needed
to provide the Service. Copies of documents uploaded to the return tools are retained for up to
12 months for quality assurance and error investigation, after which they are
deleted automatically. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal
data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or for fraud
prevention purposes.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including HTTPS encryption, Firebase
Authentication with session cookies, and access-controlled cloud infrastructure. No method of
transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but we
will notify you of any breach that affects your personal data as required by applicable law.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Object to or restrict the processing of your data.

7. Children’s Privacy
AskMeTax is not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal
information from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact
us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page
with an updated “Last updated” date. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance.
